Everyone should have a goal in life to create time for something they are passionate about. Some people do this in their spare time, others are fortunate enough to apply their passion to their professional career each and every day.
The start of 2013 presented an opportunity for my wife Alison to launch a new business venture that combines two of her passions - the performing arts and online marketing. You can read more about Alison’s background on her About page.
To The Pointe Marketing started as conversation during our holiday break and quickly evolved into a full-fledged business plan. We jumped on a domain name, setup hosting, claimed social media profiles, and found a great WordPress template framework to build upon.
The goal of To The Pointe’s dance marketing solutions are to help dance studios, companies and professionals improve their online presence and achieve goals of filling classes, filling seats, or getting paid to dance professionally. Within two weeks of launching Alison has already started building lasting connections in the Northeast Ohio dance community.
It took Alison a while to get to this point, but once she got her feet wet with a plan, there was no looking back. I admire her ability to find a niche to apply her talents to and make a difference for the performing arts community. Of course her business will take some time to build up and much perseverance will be needed, but isn’t that what keeps us motivated to succeed?
What is holding you back from making time for yourself to work on something you are passionate about?
Run your ideas past family and friends or other entrepreneurs to get the feedback and inspiration you need to get started. Setting up a website today is way easier than when I got into creating websites way back in 1999 (yes I am dating myself a bit).
If you have a great business idea that relates to your passions, write it down chip away at a plan to make it reality. Focus on why you are different and what makes you the best. Chances are someone else will seize the opportunity if you do not.

If remember my first TV show quotes website QuotesFromTheOffice.com and were a frequent visitor, you will now find the site is no longer up and running. The lady I passed the site on to has unfortunately let the domain expire. What a shame. Although I was sad to discover this I’m excited to announce my latest project, a quotes website for a new favorite show on HBO named “Eastbound and Down”.
This new quotes website features the best Kenny Powers quotes from the first season. If you haven’t checked out the show I highly recommend picking up Season 1 on DVD. My new quotes website also includes Twitter feeds from both Kenny Powers and Stevie Janowski. They are good for some laughs. Season 2 starts on September 26, 2010. I might just have to order HBO this year!
I’m pleased to announce an upcoming event at Fathom SEO on Wednesday, March 24th at 6pm. Fathom will be hosting NEOUPA’s (Northeast Ohio Usability Professionals’ Association) March 2010 event, and present about Usability and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
I will be speaking along with my co-workers Tom Cottrill, Matt Thompson and Cliff Karklin. I’m excited to get my foot in the door to start some SEO related speaking engagements this year. It has always been something I wanted to do, yet I have not been able to dedicate the time to seek out opportunities and create material. Four solid years of SEO account management provides me with many topics to talk about, and I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience with various audiences. Please stay tuned for more information about Fathom SEO speaking engagements!
